Miguel Cabrera And Albert Pujols Win Latinomvp™ Awards For Their Outstanding Performances During 2009 Mlb Season

Coamo, April 10, 2010. The Latino Sports Writers & Broadcasters Association (LSWBA) announced Thursday (April 8, 2010) the winners of the prestigious LatinoMVP Awards for the 2009 Major League Baseball season. This 21st Anniversary Award presentation will be dedicated to Roberto Clemente Walker.

The winners are:
National League LatinoMVP: Albert Pujols, St. Louis Cardinals
NL Pitcher Of The Year: Javier Vásquez, Atlanta Braves
NL Rookie Of The Year: Emilio Bonifacio, Florida Marlins
NL Relief Pitcher Of The Year: Franacisco Cordero, Cincinnati Reds

American League LatinoMVP: Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers
AL Pitcher Of The Year: Felix Hernández, Seattle Mariners
AL Rookie Of The Year : Elvis Andrus, Texas Rangers
AL Relief Pitcher Of The Year: Mariano Rivera, NY Yankees

This year marks the 21st annual LatinoMVP™ Awards announcement. The awards began in 1989 when many in the Latino media felt that perhaps Ruben Sierra of the Texas Rangers was overlooked for the American League MVP, which was given to Robin Yount of the Milwaukee Brewers.

This year’s N.L. LatinoMVP Award winner, Albert Pujols, has now won his sixth consecutive LatinoMVP Award, becoming the first player ever to win the award six times and six in a row. The only other player to have won any consecutive awards was Juan Gonzalez, who was the only three-time winner in the 21-year history of the award. New York Yankees’ legendary closer, Mariano Rivera, has matched Pujols in the record books by winning his seventh consecutive LMVP Relief Pitcher of the Year Award, also a record. Rivera remains the only player who has won this award since its inception following the 2003 MLB season.
